Privacy Policy - Briefly Reader
Last Updated: December 22, 2025
Briefly Reader is a tool developed and maintained by Atomlit Labs ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of information through our Chrome Extension, Web Application, and Mobile Application (collectively, the "Service").
1. Our Privacy Philosophy: Local-First AI
Briefly Reader is designed with a "local-first" architecture. Our core functionality—AI-powered text and PDF summarization—runs entirely within your local environment using technologies like Transformers.js and WebAssembly. This means that the text you summarize is processed on your device's hardware and is not sent to our servers for analysis.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:
- Personal Information: We do not require account registration, and we do not collect your name, email address, or contact details.
- User Content: The text, articles, and PDFs you summarize are processed locally on your device. We do not have access to your documents or the resulting summaries.
- Browsing Activity: We do not track the websites you visit or your browsing history.
3. Information We May Receive
If you contact us directly at our contact page (/contact-us), we may receive your name, email address, and the contents of your message. We use this information solely to respond to your inquiries and provide support.
4. App Permissions & Data Handling
Our Service requires minimal technical permissions to function:
- sidePanel: To provide a user interface within the browser for displaying summaries.
- Storage: To save your local preferences, such as your chosen AI model or summary length. This data remains strictly on your device.
We do not use activeTab or Scripting permissions to automatically read or monitor your browsing activity.
5. Third-Party Services
Briefly Reader downloads AI model weights from public repositories (such as Hugging Face). While these downloads occur directly to your device's cache, your IP address may be visible to those third-party hosting providers during the initial download process. Please refer to their respective privacy policies for more information.
6. Security
Because your data stays on your device, you are in control of its security. We recommend keeping your browser and device operating system updated to ensure the best possible protection for your local data.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
8. Contact Us
If you have any questions regarding privacy while using the Application, or have questions about the practices, please contact the Service Provider Atomlit Labs.
